Indonesia celebrated a perfect day on the speed wall at the 2026 World Climbing Chamonix speed climbing competition, capturing both the men’s and women’s gold medals to continue its dominance in international speed climbing.

For many athletes, competing in Chamonix is a career highlight. The electric crowd, historic setting, and festival-like environment make the event one of the most memorable experiences of the season, drawing the world’s best speed climbers to one of climbing’s most celebrated locations.

There was no exception this year as competitors took to the speed wall to race their way to a podium finish. Here’s a closer look at the key moments, highlights, and final results from the 2026 World Climbing Chamonix speed climbing competition.


Women’s Speed Climbing Final

The 2026 World Climbing Chamonix speed climbing competition featured a highly competitive field, but Indonesia’s Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi once again demonstrated why she is among the world’s premier speed climbers.

In the gold medal race, Dewi faced Italy’s Giulia Randi in a closely contested final. The pair remained nearly even through much of the climb before Dewi gained a slight advantage in the closing meters. She stopped the clock in 6.22 seconds to secure the gold medal, successfully defending her title after winning the gold medal in Kraków, Poland.

Randi finished in 6.51 seconds to earn the silver medal, marking the first World Cup podium finish of her career.

The bronze medal match saw France’s Capucine Viglione take on the United States’ Isis Rothfork in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Viglione delivered a composed climb, finishing in 6.41 seconds to defeat Rothfork, who crossed the line in 6.53 seconds. The French climber celebrated enthusiastically with the home supporters as she secured the bronze medal.

Men’s Speed Climbing Final

The men’s speed climbing final at the 2026 World Climbing Chamonix speed climbing competition featured an all-Indonesian showdown between reigning Olympic champion Veddriq Leonardo and Indonesian record holder Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi, guaranteeing Indonesia the top two spots on the podium.

Both climbers exploded off the start, but a slight slip from Robby midway up the wall proved decisive. Leonardo capitalized on the mistake, stopping the clock in 4.89 seconds to claim the gold medal. Robby crossed the finish in 5.11 seconds to secure the silver medal, completing an outstanding one/two finish for Indonesia.

The bronze medal race delivered one of the closest finishes of the competition as Japan’s Ryo Omasa faced China’s Yicheng Zhao in the small final. Both climbers were virtually inseparable from the start, racing to the top in a dramatic sprint. Omasa narrowly claimed the bronze medal with a blistering time of 4.701 seconds, edging Zhao by just three thousandths of a second, as Zhao finished in 4.704 seconds.
