2023 Jakarta World Cup: All About the Speed
IFSC 2023 Jakarta World Cup Results
The second speed competition of the World Cup took place in Jakarta, INDONESIA. Close races and home favourites made for a fun and exhilirating night of speed climbing. An exhuberated Jakarta crowd cheered for the three home climbers that took the podium and gained Indonesia three medals.
Men’s Speed Climbing
Indonesia’s Raharjati Nursamsa stands at the top of the podium with his first World Cup gold medal. He is a young climber and started to join the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup competitions in 2022. His win was an exceptional show of skill as he was up against his fellow well-accomplished teammates Veddriq Leonardo (the world record holder) and Kiromal Katibin who were also competing in the 2023 Jakarta World Cup.
Nursamsa was able to climb a 5.11 in the final round, which was three-hundredths of a second faster than China’s Xinshang Wang who took home the silver medal. This award marked Wang’s second medal of the 2023 season.
One of the home favorites, Indonesia’s Kiromal Katibin, made the podium despite him and his opponent China’s Wu Peng both slipping during the small final of the 2023 Jakarta World Cup. He was successfully able to hold on in order to clock in at 6.34, while Wu fell, losing his chance of getting on the podium.
Women’s Speed Climbing
Poland’s Aleksandra Miroslaw wins consecutive gold medals in the 2023 season. This comes as no surprise, as she continues to grasp the top spot since 2019. It had appeared that Indonesia’s Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, who took home the silver medal, might have the chance to knock Miroslaw out of the top spot when she got the better start in the final match. Yet, Miroslaw pulled it out in the end to overcome Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi.
The silver medal marked Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi’s second medal of the season after she placed third at the World Cup competition in Seoul. Receiving the bronze medal was Poland’s Aleksandra Kalucka who narrowly defeated Deng Lijuan in the small final of the 2023 Jakarta World Cup.
As we move on to the next speed competition in Salt Lake City, USA, everyone will be watching in anticipation if Miroslaw can maintain her status of being undefeated.
