2023 IFSC World Championships Boulder Winners
Day four and five of the boulder world championships in Bern, Switzerland held the men’s and women’s boulder events, which ended in excitement as the 2023 IFSC World Championships boulder winners were crowned. With 10 Olympic quotas up for grabs, across the boulder and lead combined formats, every professional climber was competing not just to become one of the 2023 IFSC World Championships boulder winners, but also to claim a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
2023 IFSC World Championships Boulder Winners
Women’s Boulder Final
Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret took her third Boulder World Championships title at Bern 2023 with an outstanding performance of her mastery of boulder discipline. Semi-final routes – all flashed. Final routes – all flashed. Her ability to top (complete) every boulder problem on the first try was a sheer show of dominance over her fellow competitors.
“It’s hard to put into words right now what I feel. To be honest I never get used to winning. I will probably never get used to stepping onto the podium and celebrating the first place because it’s just so incredibly hard to keep the level up because the girls are so strong and coming after me, and it’s hard to keep up with them. Every win means the world to me, it’s always like the first one.”

Joining Garnbret on the podium was France’s Oriane Bertone who placed second by topping three of the four problems. This marks a career-best for Bertone as she wins her first-ever world championship medal.
After starting off the 2023 World Cup by winning her first-ever World Cup gold medal in Hachioji, it comes as no surprise that America’s Brooke Raboutou claims her place among the 2023 IFSC World Championships boulder winners with the bronze medal.
Men’s Boulder Final
France continues to place on the podium with Mickael Mawem taking home the Boulder World Championship gold medal title, which makes him the first French climber to receive this award. He was able to continue his strong form from the semi-finals to the finals, which allowed him to stay ahead of fellow teammate Mejdi Schalck and other formidable climbers.
“It‘s a crazy moment. I’ve waited ten years for this. It was my goal to be the best in the world one time in my life. I’ve had a lot of failures, I’ve come back year after year. We have all these strong young guys now. I can’t believe it. It’s just crazy.

France’s Mejdi Schalck joined his teammate on the podium with the silver medal after achieving two tops and four zones. As one of the 2023 IFSC World Championships boulder winners, this marks his first world championship medal.
Japan’s Sorato Anraku had appeared to be a front-runner for a podium position after topping the first and second boulder problems but fell short of taking home a medal when he neither topped nor zoned on the final two boulders. He was pushed into fourth place by South Korea’s Dohyun Lee who was able to take the chance to pull ahead of the young Japanese climber by getting the zone on the third boulder.
Dohyun Lee had a solid start by topping the first two problems with ease, but struggled later on to solve the last two problems. Despite the many failed attempts, he was able to pull through to 2023 IFSC World Championships boulder winners by claiming the bronze medal.
It was an even tougher night for defending champion Japan’s Kokoro Fujii who only managed to reach two zones at the start of the competition and finished last in the final.
