Its neutral profile, moderate stiffness, and 4.3 mm molded rubber create a stable platform that withstands frequent use, making it particularly well suited for long gym sessions and climbers who are still refining their footwork. The durable construction also means the shoe maintains its shape well over time, providing consistent performance throughout its lifespan.
The trade-off for this durability is a reduction in sensitivity. Compared to softer, thinner rubber compounds found on higher-performance climbing shoes, the Momentum offers less feedback from the wall, making it more difficult to feel subtle footholds or maximize friction on technical terrain. As a result, the shoe is less precise on small edges, steep overhangs, and advanced bouldering problems where sensitivity and aggressive toe positioning become increasingly important.

It’s a flat climbing shoe, not aggressive at all, which makes for a very comfortable shoe. No need to take them on and off like a more aggressive shoe, making them great for beginners that want all day comfortable to work on easier routes that don’t require a more performance-oriented climbing shoe.
In addition, the engineered knit technology upper is exceptionally breathable, making it one of the coolest climbing shoes to wear during long sessions.
Black Diamond Women’s Momentum Review: Sizing & Fit
This climbing shoe runs a little narrow. If you have wider feet, they may feel a bit uncomfortable especially around the forefoot. Due to the engineered knit technology upper, we didn’t find much stretching over time, so we recommend that you find the fit you want for the start rather than expecting them to loosen over time from use. The adjustable straps are nice to get a good fit around the foot and made it easier to take the shoes on and off.
We found that the Black Diamond Women’s Momentum climbing shoes run close to street size. My street shoe size is a women’s US 8 , and I found that this shoe in US 7.5 provided a secure fit without being painfully tight.
