On May 3rd, the 2026 World Climbing Keqiao men’s bouldering competition wrapped up the first world climbing bouldering event of the season. To a sold-out crowd, professional climbers from around the world came together to test their skills and ability at the prestigious Yangshan Sport Climbing Center in Keqiao, China.

Across the rounds, competitors faced powerful and technical problems that demanded creativity, coordination, and precision under pressure. Here’s a look at the results and highlights from the 2026 World Climbing Keqiao men’s bouldering competition.

Men’s Bouldering Semi-Final

Each bouldering competition is expected to focus on a particular skill, with the first bouldering comp of the season focusing on strength. The 2026 World Climbing Keqiao men’s bouldering semi-final quickly separated the field, with a set of demanding problems designed to test strength, technique, and endurance.

France’s Mejdi Schalck opened his round with confidence, energizing the crowd with an impressive flash (a top on his first attempt) on the opening problem. He went on to complete all four boulders, setting a high benchmark for the rest of the field.

Japan’s Sorato Anraku narrowly surpassed Schalck in the final standings. Although he also secured four tops, Anraku required fewer attempts across the problems, giving him the edge and the top position heading into the final.

The home crowd had further reason to celebrate as China’s Yufei Pan and Xuanpu Bai delivered strong performances, each securing a place in the final with composed and consistent climbing.

Women’s Bouldering Final

The 2026 World Climbing Keqiao men’s bouldering final delivered a dramatic finish, with the podium decided on the final problem. The competitors remained closely matched throughout, leaving the outcome uncertain until the very end.

Japan’s Sorato Anraku, the silver medalist at the 2024 Summer Olympics, secured the gold medal by topping three of the four bouldering problems. Although he required multiple attempts on each, his ability to complete more problems than the rest of the field gave him a decisive advantage.

Joining Anraku on the podium was Korea’s Dohyun Lee. After struggling on the opening two boulders, Lee showed resilience by topping M3 and M4, finishing with 69.9 points to claim the silver medal.

France’s Mejdi Schalck began the final in strong form, standing as the only athlete to flash the first boulder. However, a missed second top and failure to secure even a zone on the final problem caused him to drop in the rankings. He ultimately finished behind Lee with 59.8 points, rounding out the podium in third place.
