IFSC World Cup Salt Lake City 2024 Results

On the World Cup circuit, we move to the United States of America for the IFSC World Cup Salt lake City 2024 event featuring the disciplines of boulder and speed climbing. The event hosted many of the top athletes in boulder and speed from around the world competiting all vying for a spot on top of the podium.

Women’s Boulder

Flash, Flash, Flash! The women’s boulder final excited the crowd as most of the climbers topped the first boulder problem of the evening. USA’s Natalia Grossman continued her streak of winning the gold at the Salt Lake City event by claiming her 5th consecutive boulder gold medal at the IFSC World Cup Salt Lake City 2024 event.

“I knew there were a lot of tops, so that just motivated me,” she said of the final. “I wasn’t sure what the result was… I didn’t know if I had to zone or top the final boulder, so it took me a second to realise [I won].”

Joining Grossman on the podium were two of France’s best climbers, Oriane Bertone with the silver medal and Naïlé Meignan with the bronze medal.

Men’s Boulder

Japan’s Anraku Sorato took home his second Boulder World Cup gold medal of his career. This seventeen year old sport climbing star secured his title with a spectacular finish when he topped the final boulder.

Japan’s Meichi Narasaki flashed [getting to the TOP on the first try] the third boulder problem of at the IFSC World Cup Salt Lake City 2024, which allowed him to take home the silver medal.

Sorato and Narasaki were joined on the podium by Austrian veteran climber Jakob Schubert who was able to stay ahead of Japan’s Sohta Amagasa based on number of attempts.

Men’s Speed

After breaking the world record in speed climbing and declaring himself the “fastest vertical man in the world,” American’s Samuel Watson had a lot of pressure to live up to the name at the IFSC World Cup Salt Lake City 2024 event.

Watson did not disappoint his friends and fans cheering him on at his main training center as he recorded 3 out of 4 rounds with sub-5s finishes. The final ended with Watson beating his fellow Noah Bratschi with a score of 4.89s.

World champion Italy’s Matteo Zurloni went up against Austria’s Kevin Amon in the small final, but slipped three-quarters of a way up the wall leaving the opening Amon needed to take home the bronze medal.

Women’s Speed

Team USA secured a double speed gold with USA’s Emma Hunt taking home the second speed gold medal of the evening at the IFSC World Cup Salt Lake City 2024 event after besting Poland’s Aleksandra Kalucka who fell shortly after the start of the final round.

I’m just so excited, Salt Lake City is kind of like a second home, so it feels like a home-turfy win, and I got to do it with Samuel which is so exciting!

Joining Hunt and A. Kalucka on the podium was China’s Deng Lijuan who outpaced Aleksandra’s sister, Polands’ Natalia Kalucka, in the small final with a time of 6.94s to Natalia’s 7.14s finish.
