IFSC World Cup Brixen 2023: Toby Roberts Wins Gold
The 2023 Sport Climbing season arrived in Italy with around 200 of the world’s best boulderers gathered together to compete at the Vertikale Climbing Stadium for the IFSC World Cup Brixen 2023 event. Despite the rain over the weekend, many excited fans filled the crowd to cheer on their favorite competitors.
Women’s Boulder Final
At the top of the podium again was women’s boulder World Champion Natalia Grossman who secured her World Cup gold medal by topping all four boulders. She made it through most of the boulders with ease but said in an interview that she struggled with the W3 boulder.
“I’m pretty excited right now. This one was a little challenging. The third boulder gave me a run for my money. I kind of started rapid firing which is something I’ve been trying not to do but I think just knowing I only had a few attempts left, sometimes it just takes me a while to learn a move. It’s just repetition.”

Joining Grossman on the podium at the IFSC World Cup Brixen 2023 event was South Korea’s Chaehyun Seo who placed second with only three tops. An exceptional display of skill, composure, and poise allowed her to receive her first World Cup women’s boulder medal.
Chaehyun Seo placed just ahead of Serbia’s Stasa Gejo who also had three tops and four zones. Yet, the number of attempts put Gejo in third place with the bronze medal. As someone who isn’t shy to show her emotion, Gejo was showing high spirits and a formidable display of strength at this year’s IFSC World Cup Brixen 2023 event.
Men’s Boulder Final
The men’s final at the IFSC World Cup Brixen 2023 event was dominated by competitors from Asia with four athletes from Japan and one from South Korea. Yet, Great Britain’s Toby Roberts held the pressure against these strong competitors to take home his first men’s boulder gold medal.
Fans watched with anticipation to see Roberts tackle the final M4 boulder, which ultimately secured him his top place on the podium with three tops and four zones.
South Korea’s Dohyun Lee took second place on the podium with two tops and four zones. This marked his second World Cup medal this season after receiving the men’s boulder gold medal at the 2023 World Cup Prague event.
Joining the top two winners on the podium was Japan’s Yoshiyuki Ogata with a strong finish of two tops and four zones. His third-place finish came down to the number of attempts, which was more than his competitor Dohyun Lee.
As this IFSC World Cup Brixen 2023 event finishes, the circuit continues with the start of lead climbing and the continuation of boulder in Innsbruck, Austria.
