2026 World Climbing Europe Series Zakopane Speed Climbing Event

The 2026 World Climbing Europe Series Zakopane brought Europe’s fastest climbers to the heart of Poland’s Tatra Mountains on June 14, with athletes competing on a temporary 15-meter speed wall erected in Zakopane’s Independence Square as part of the wider Tatra Fest sports festival. The event followed the World Climbing Europe Youth Championship held the previous day, creating a packed weekend of elite speed climbing action.

Unfortunately, the event experienced unforeseen high winds during the final knock-out rounds of the competition. Officials decided to cancel the rest of the knock-out rounds and end the competition due to strong wind and mechanical difficulties.

Who took to the podium was determined based on the results of the elimination round. Find out the results and more details about the 2026 World Climbing Europe Series Zakopane speed climbing event below.

The men’s speed climbing 1/8 finals was underway despite challenging wind conditions at the venue. However, proceedings came to an abrupt halt during the matchup between France’s Jérôme Morel and Spain’s Miguel Gómez Barrios. Morel noticed that a strong gust of wind had caught the safety rope, creating several meters of slack and resulting in unsafe climbing conditions.

Following the incident, and with strong winds continuing to affect the competition area, the judges made the decision to cancel the remainder of the round and conclude the event early.

Final standings were determined using the results from the completed elimination rounds. Switzerland’s Gilles Meili secured the gold medal after posting the fastest time of the competition, stopping the clock at 4.93 seconds. Ukraine’s Hryhorii Ilchyshyn claimed the silver medal with a time of 4.97 seconds, while France’s Jérôme Morel completed the podium in third place, earning bronze with a run of 5.24 seconds.
