Women’s Combined Final
On Friday (August 11, 2023) the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion, Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret, claimed her ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics by placing first in the women’s Boulder & Lead World Championships. This marks her 2nd 2023 World Championships title after she won the women’s Boulder World Championships last Saturday.
With a combined score of 177.0, Garnbret built a strong lead in both boulder and lead which ultimately secured her the top spot on the podium.
“I feel incredible and relieved at the same time. It feels so amazing today. I felt so composed today actually, I was climbing the Lead route flawlessly and I am just incredibly happy right now that I have qualified, even though I have qualified once before, you don’t get tired of this feeling of qualifying for an Olympics. So, my second Olympics – here we go.”

Trailing 20 points behind Garnbret with a total of 157.1 points was the defending women’s combined world champion, Austria’s Jessica Pilz. She had solid performances in both lead and boulder but fell short of reaching the same level of performance as her competitor Garnbret.
Joining Garnbret and Pilz on the podium was Japan’s Ai Mori 2023 IFSC World Champs combined results of 140.6. Although her performance in boulder was not as strong as her fellow competitors, she was able to pull ahead when she placed first in the lead discipline with a score of 50+.
Mori’s 2023 IFSC World Champs combined results come as no surprise as she placed first at the women’s lead World Championships last Sunday.
Men’s Combined Final
On Saturday (August 12, 2023), the final 2023 IFSC World Champs Combined results came in as the men’s boulder and lead competition marked the end of the 2023 IFSC World Championships in Bern.
Following Garnbret’s success is Austria’s Jakob Schubert who received his second gold medal and world title of Bern 2023, this time in men’s boulder and lead. Schubert started off with a strong 2nd place finish in the boulder round, which put the odds in his favor moving into the lead section of the evening.
Schuberts favored discipline, lead climbing, showcased his ability to effortlessly climb through the lead final route. His 2023 World Champs combined results of 183.6 points put him well ahead of his competitors and secured him the gold medal for the evening.
“I don’t know. It’s so crazy. It kind of feels like the Lead, it all went so fast. Today was a big day, obviously, I knew I had to do really well in Boulder to have a chance for that Olympic ticket and the Boulder round couldn’t have gone any better for me I think. My dream was to go into the Lead with a lead and then keep my nerves under control, and I think I did a really good job of doing that in the Lead route.”
