2023 Boulder World Cup Hachioji: Exhilarating Display of Athleticism
2023 Boulder World Cup Hachioji
The 2023 season has kickstarted with 171 professional climbers from around the world gathering together to showcase their skills at the 2023 Boulder World Cup Hachioji. Men’s and Women’s bouldering both experienced difficult level bouldering problems and encountered new dual-textured holds, which made for a tough start to the season.
Women’s Boulder Final
USA’s Brooke Raboutou showed exceptional strength and skill as she topped the podium at the 2023 Boulder World Cup Hachioji event. She was overjoyed with happiness to receive her first ever IFSC Boulder World Cup gold medal, which marked the first recipient of the gold medal for the 2023 season. Her performance was beyond her fellow competitors as she topped three of the four boulders for the final, when her rival, silver medal winner, Germany’s Hannah Meul came in 2nd place with only one top. Japan’s Matsufuji Anon was the final winner of the women’s boulder final by coming in 3rd and receiving the bronze medal.
Men’s Boulder Final
France was highly represented in the top podium for the men’s boulder, with Mejdi Schalck taking the gold medal and Paul Jenft receiving the bronze medal. This was the second Boulder World Cup gold medal Mejdi Schalck has won in his entire career and a great way to start off the season. The silver medal was awarded to Hannes Van Duysen from Belgium, which made history being the first medal Belgium has ever received.
Despite the celebration of the top winners of the 2023 Boulder World Cup Hachioji event, there was still a moment of silence and condolences for the loss of German sport climber Christoph Schweiger. The 21-year-old climber was supposed to be participating in this event but unfortunately passed away due to a traffic accident. Such a tragic loss and greatly missed by all at this year’s event.
