China’s Yuetong Zhang was overjoyed when she realized that she had secured the gold medal in the women’s combined (lead & boulder) event. Zhang narrowly pulled ahead of Japan’s Miho Nonaka with less than a 2 point lead over the Olympic silver medalist. A strong finish in the lead event gave her the edge she needed to take home the gold ticket to next years Olympic games.

Standing on the podium next to Zhang and Nonaka, was also another Japanese climber Futaba Ito with the bronze medal. Ito had finished off in the semi-finals in first place, but failed to achieve the level of success she had reached in the semi-finals to pull ahead of Zhang and Nonaka.
